Pricing & quotes

What affects a pressure washing quote

Two quotes for “pressure washing” can be different jobs. This page explains the factors that commonly change scope and time. It does not publish a universal price.

Why quotes can differ

A lower number is not automatically a better deal. A higher number is not automatically better work. Outdoor cleaning quotes often differ because the properties, methods and inclusions differ. That idea is also set out on the Learning Hub under Why Two Quotes Can Differ.

VVPS quotes after looking at the work. A starting price on the site for suitable small residential driveway cleaning is not a universal pressure-washing rate.

Factors that commonly change a quote

  • Surface area — a short path and a wide driveway are different amounts of work.
  • Surface type — concrete, pavers, masonry and coated finishes may need different methods. See surface types.
  • Condition — worn, cracked or previously repaired surfaces can take longer and may limit what cleaning can change.
  • Staining — light dust and established organic growth are not the same job. Some marks may remain.
  • Access — parking, hose runs, stairs, locked gates and how close equipment can sit.
  • Preparation — moving items, protecting glass and gardens, and clearing the work area.
  • Equipment requirements — what the site allows, not a one-size setup.
  • Surrounding areas — splash risk to neighbours, cars, plants and walls.
  • Water and drainage — supply, runoff and keeping wash water out of stormwater where required.
  • Time — a careful rinse and tidy finish takes longer than a quick pass.
  • Additional work — things that become apparent after assessment, such as a weaker surface or extra areas that were not in the first description.

Method also changes time

Pressure washing is not automatically the method used. Some surfaces need a gentler approach. That can change how long the visit takes. See pressure washing vs soft washing.

What to compare between quotes

  • which areas are included and which are not
  • whether preparation, protection and rinse are listed
  • what happens with wash water
  • whether the price assumes a sound surface
  • what happens if the scope changes on the day
