Storm Preparation Checklist
Practical ground-level checks to help you observe your property before and after heavy rain or strong winds.

Gutters and Drainage
- Check gutters and downpipes from a safe position.
- Look for visible roof changes from ground level.
- Clear accessible leaves from surface drains.
Trees and Gardens
- Trim manageable vegetation where appropriate.
- Arrange qualified advice for unsafe or large tree work.
Outdoor Items
- Bring lightweight furniture and loose objects inside.
- Secure items that cannot be moved.
Vehicles and Access
- Move vehicles where practical and safe.
Basic Storm Readiness
Before severe weather, keep phones, torches and essential devices charged where possible. For outages, fallen powerlines or emergency information, follow your electricity provider and official emergency services.
- Charge phones and portable power banks.
- Check torches, batteries and essential supplies.
- Review Bureau of Meteorology and NSW SES information.
- Keep emergency contacts accessible.
After the Storm
Wait until conditions are safe. Do not touch fallen powerlines, enter floodwater or approach an unstable area.
- Photograph visible changes from a safe position.
- Check for fallen branches, shifted objects and new water marks from ground level.
- Seek appropriate advice where electrical, structural, roofing or tree safety is involved.
